The London Fog is rumored to have been invented in the 1990s by a pregnant woman in Vancouver. The story goes that she ordered this comforting drink at a local café and enjoyed it so much that she began requesting the same creation at other cafés she frequented. Somehow, her simple order caught on and became a beloved café favorite. Other names for this drink include the Earl Grey Latte and the Vanilla Tea Misto.

Since its creation, many cafés and coffee houses have claimed the London Fog as their own unique formulation. The true origins may remain a mystery, but one thing is certain: it is a magnificent drink, and I’m grateful that someone created this wonderfully simple combination of flavors.

Earl Grey tea itself has a distinctive and elegant taste. It is a black tea infused with the oil of bergamot, which is extracted from the cells within the rind of the bergamot orange. Known for its beautiful citrus aroma, bergamot is also a popular note used in many perfumes.

This citrus fruit, primarily grown in Southern Italy, is rich in flavonoids that are associated with supporting heart health and a healthy immune system. Bergamot has also been studied for its potential benefits, including helping to support healthy blood glucose levels, reducing inflammation, and promoting cardiovascular health.

Whether enjoyed as a morning ritual or a cozy afternoon treat, the London Fog remains a timeless drink that blends history, comfort, and a touch of citrus elegance.

How I make my London Fog:

  • Earl Grey Tea (I steep it for a few minutes)

  • Splash of Vanilla Syrup

  • Steamed heavy or whipping cream infused with lavender extract (I also frothed it)

  • Dried lavender

  • Fresh lavender

You can use any milk/cream that you like. Also, I rarely measure!
